SIUC Automotive Technology Organization Fundraising

To fund our trips to places like St. Louis and Detroit, we hold many fundraising events throughout the semester.

Car Washes: Our first event was our car wash that was held at Wal-mart in Carbondale, Il (picture at left). It was a nice, sunny day in early September. We had many vehicles come through to be cleaned. We all had a good time and raised some money for the club in the process.

We also held a second car wash later in October at a local Shell station. There was a Farmer's Market being held nearby which also attracted business for us. It was not as nice and sunny at this one, but we still managed to wash many cars throughout the day. We would like to thank both Wal-Mart and Shell for allowing us to use their facilities and water for our fundraising events.

Car Care Clinic: Also every semester we host a free Car Care Clinic for the community that involves a 50 point inspection. Hoses, belts, fluid levels, tire pressure, and other components of the vehicle are inspected by club members. On the right you can see the 5-gas exhaust analyzer that we use to test emissions on the vehicles that come through as part of the inspection. This semester, the Car Care Clinic (or C cubed as we like to call it) was held at the Murdale True Value in Carbondale, IL. We inspected a total of 98 vehicles, including two of True Value's trucks.
We really enjoy participating in our Car Care Clinics because it gives us a chance to provide a service to the community while getting our hands dirty. We offer this clinic usually before a scheduled University break so that we may inspect students' cars and let them know if they need any service before making a long trip home. For the rest of the community, the Fall clinic allows for a free pre-winter inspection to be ready for the cold weather.

We would like to thank Murdale True Value for the donation of the parking lot space and the fluids.

Paint Balling

One of the more popular club events this semester was paint balling at Outback Paintball in Carterville. We had a very large turnout, which included some Faculty and some non-ATO-members. Many off us did not know what to expect because this was our first time. Others had some or a lot experience and were really looking forward to having a good time with their fellow club members.  A slew of non-ATO-members, many of which were experienced paint ballers, led by faculty members Rodney Maxey, Sean Boyle, and Ben Komnick also showed up calling themselves the NWATO.

The first few battles were a slaughter. The so-called NWATO having most of the experience and the leadership of Mr. Maxey on its side having the advantage. As the day wore on the ATO members began to become more of a challenge. This resulted in some fierce match-ups that ended in a couple of ATO victories. The games that were played included: Capture the flag, The last man standing, and Take the hill.  When it was all over and done with every one involved had a good time and was ready to go again. This will probably not be the last time the ATO goes paint balling. There is another outing at Outback Paintball scheduled for sometime later on this spring.( Check events schedule for exact time and date) {written by chuck walker}
